Thanks to our friends at the New River Career and Technical College, the Player of the Week poll is back!
Each week we’ll select one player from the area teams that win a game. Coaches are welcome to nominate a player. Nominations must be in by 2 p.m. each Saturday.
The winner will be chosen by Play Sheet Sports and a guest picker. If the two don’t agree, the poll will be used as a tiebreaker.
The player with the most votes each week will advance to our Community Choice Poll. At the end of the year, all 11 Community Choice winners will be entered into a poll where the community can pick their Player of the Year from those 11 players. The winner will receive a trophy commemorating their success and the support their community gave them.
The poll will close Thursday at 3 p.m.
- Max Simpson, Bluefield – Simpson threw for 306 yards in a 34-2 victory.
- Ben Butler, Greenbrier West – Butler rushed for 308 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries in a win over Pocahontas County.
- Isaiah Conley, Independence- Conley finished with 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery touchdown in a 35-0 victory at Mingo Central.
- Jaxson Workman, Liberty – Workman completed 9-of-15 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, adding 38 carries for 174 yards and four touchdowns in a win over James Monroe.
- Bo Wykle, Meadow Bridge – Wykle rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 31-yard passing touchdown in a win.
- Jasper Swafford, Midland Trail – Swafford completed 11 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, adding 30 yards rushing and another score in a win over Greenbrier East.
- Alex Cox, Princeton – Cox registered six catches for 213 yards and a touchdown, adding a 47-yard rushing score in the win.
- Jace Bailey, Shady Spring – Bailey intercepted three passes in a six interception effort for Shady Spring.
- Bradyn Waldron, Westside – Waldron did it all with 149 yards passing, 135 yards rushing and six total touchdowns (four rushing, two passing) adding a 50-yard scoop and score to hand PikeView its first loss of the season.
- Cam Huffman, Wyoming East – Huffman ran 20 times for 204 yards and a touchdown as Wyoming Eats picked up its first win of the year against River View.
