
Ripley 6, Nicholas County 5
Summersville – One inning proved fatal for Nicholas County Wednesday as Ripley scored five runs in the fourth to secure a 6-5 win over the Grizzlies in Summersville.
The loss came despite Ripley committing six errors and Nicholas outhitting the Vikings 13-10.
Zoe Nash and Aleigha Stephenson led Nicholas with three hits each while Myah Scott and Makenzie Hanshaw notched a pair of hits.
Abby Hilleary fanned 10 in the circle in the loss.
Liberty 7, James Monroe 5
Glen Daniel – Liberty held off a late rally from James Monroe to secure a 7-5 win over the Mavericks in the Class AA Region 3 Section 2 tournament Wednesday.
The win sends the Raiders to Friday’s sectional title game where they’ll await the winner of James Monroe-Midland Trail, set to be played on Thursday.
Liberty started fast, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Alyssa Scarbro led the charge with three hits while Stella Brown notched a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
Shailyn Wickline and Aliyah Clarkson had three hits each for the Mavericks in the loss.
Shady Spring 9, Greenbrier East 1
Shady Spring – Shady Spring jumped on Greenbrier East early, scoring four runs across the first two innings to secure a 9-1 win over the Spartans in Shady Spring.
East will face the winner of PikeView-Princeton on Friday while shady will face Independence in Coal City on Friday.
Annabelle Strugill led the charge for Shady with two hits and three RBI while Raegan Lane homered in the victory. Jenna Joyce notched a pair of knocks and RBI as well, picking up the win in the circle.
Haley Byars homered for East in the loss.
Riverside 2, Beckley 1
Belle – Riverside rallied late, scoring a pair of runs in the sixth inning to secure a 2-1 win over Beckley at Riverside Wednesday.
Aubrey Smallwood led the way for the Flying Eagles, fanning 12 batters and driving in their only run of the night.
Karlie Fraley and Rose Tucker also had a hit each in the loss.
Independence 9, PikeView 1
Coal City – Independence’s offense struck early, plating the first seven runs in a 9-1 win over PikeView Wednesday in the Class AAA Region 3 Section 1 tournament.
The win sets up a matchup with Shady Spring on Friday in Coal City. PikeView drops to the elimination bracket where it will face Princeton on Thursday in Gardner.
Ava Parks led the charge for Indy with three hits, notching 100 for her career, driving in a trio of runs as well.
Emma Simpson and Acasia Cook added two hits each.
Bella Delida had PikeView’s lone hit of the game
Midland Trail 20, Summers County 0
Oak Hill – Midland Trail rebounded Wednesday night, toppling Summers County 20-0 to remain alive in the Class AA Region 3 Section 2 tournament in Oak Hill.
The win sets up a rematch with James Monroe on Thursday back in Fayette County.
Nevaeh Hall homered and drove in three runs for Trail while Presley Walker drove in a trio of runs as well.
Maddie Rader dominated in the circle with 12 strikeouts, yielding one hit in five innings.
