
Nicholas County 6, Shady Spring 4
Shady Spring – Nicholas County started fast and held off a rally attempt to topple Shady Spring 6-4, eliminating the Tigers in a Class AAA Region 3 tournament game Saturday in Shady.
Nicholas scored the game’s first six runs, doing all of the damage in the first two innings.
Coleton Hellems led the charge with three hits and two RBI while Colton Burkhammer added a pair of RBI.
Lucas Milam picked up the win, his second of the postseason, with five innings pitched, allowing just one earned run.
Cutter Boggs led Shady at the plate with two hits in the loss.
Wyoming East 5, Summers County 0
New Richmond – Jaeden Lester dominated on the mound again, holding Summers County to two hits in a 5-0 win over the Bobcats in the Class AA Region 3 tournament.
The win sends East to the title game of the bracket, needing just one win over the winner of Liberty-Summers County to advance to the best-of-3 regional championship series.
Lester allowed just two hits, fanning 16 in the win.
Dylan Golden went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI to lead the offensive assault.
Robey Brown and Jake Boone had Summers’ lone hits.
Liberty 15, Bluefield 2
Glen Daniel – Liberty started fast, scoring the first 15 runs of a 15-2 victory over Bluefield in a Class AA Region 3 tournament elimination game Saturday in Glen Daniel.
Chase Shea drove in three runs to pace the Raiders while Jayden Acord and Jordan Hodge drove in two runs each.
Brayden Keith earned the win, fanning five in 2.2 innings of work.
Greenbrier East 10, Independence 0
Fairlea – Greenbrier East won its fourth and final matchup against Independence this season, toppling the Patriots 10-0 in an elimination game in the Class AAA Region 3 tournament.
Layne Lambert was stellar for the Spartans on the bump, scattering three hits in a complete-game effort while fanning seven batters.
Four different teammates backed his effort with multiple hits, led by Graham Brewster who notched three and rove in two runs. Nelson Lynch led East with three RBI.
Micah Cuthbert led Indy in the loss with two hits.
