Karns’ hot start was enough to seal the deal Saturday as it toppled Shady Spring 8-5 after taking a 4-0 lead in the opening frame.
Jalon Bailey paced Shady with two hits, driving in three runs while Colyn Smith added a pair of hits as well.
Errors plagued the Tigers in the loss as they outhit Karns 10-6 but committed six miscues.

Princeton – Beckley erupted in the third inning, scoring six runs en route to a 9-0 win over James Monroe in the Coppinger Tournament Saturday at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
Parker Williams led Beckley with three hits while Brady Williams finished with two in the win.
Tyler Wilhite earned the win, allowing four hits and striking out nine in a complete-game effort.
Kadyn Hines led James Monroe with two hits in the loss.
Wyoming East 11, Greenbrier West 0
New Richmond – Wyoming East finished its big week with an 11-0 win over Greenbrier West Saturday in New Richmond.
Owen Biggs and Jaeden Lester led the charge for the Warriors with two hits each, adding two RBI each.
Jarred Phillips earned the win with six strikeouts, leading a pitching staff that held West to two hits.
Independence 8, Fulton, Tn. 8
Independence tied Fulton 8-8 Saturday at Christianberry Park.
The game was played on a time limit and ended in the eighth inning.
The Patriot bats erupted, collecting 14 hits to overcome four errors.
Leading the charge was Levi Barnett who collects three hits and launched a home run with a triple to boot.
Degan Williams added three hits and two RBI as well while Hunter Milam and Cole Cunningham finished with two hits each.
Summers County 6, Gilmer County 4; Waterford 9, Summers County 3
Summers County split a pair of games Saturday, beating Gilmer County 6-4 and falling to Waterford 9-3.
Colten Jones scolded the ball in both games, going 4-for-4 with a home run and a double against Waterford and adding two hits, including a triple, against Gilmer County.
Grady Allen added a solid performance against Gilemr with three hits while Cody Snarly added two against Waterford.
