Charleston – Philip Barbour nearly erased an 11-point deficit, stealing a pass on the final play of the game but hearing the horn sound before it could get a shot off in a 53-51 loss to No. 2 seed Williamstown Wednesday night in the Class AA quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The Colts trailed by five with less than three seconds left but hit a corner 3 to cut the deficit to two with 0.8 seconds left. They stole the ensuing inbounds pass at half court but could get the shot off before the horn sounded.
Williamstown, which advances to the semifinal where it will face Wheeling Central on Friday at 9:30, was led by Gracie Montgomery who netted 17 points including five 3-pointers. Quinn Bunch added 16 while Arissa Burt scored 11.
Tatem Jeffris led the Colts with 17 points in the loss.
