The Pioneers forced Nitro into 26 3-point attempts, holding the defending champs to 30 percent shooting in a 56-39 victory over the Wildcats in the Class AAA state title game at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Jayce Sammons who scored 22 points, netting 10 from the free throw line. Brooke Adkins added 16 in a win that saw the Pioneers expand the lead to double digits in the third quarter and never relinquish it.
Brianna Gibson led Nitro with 16 points in the loss while all-stater Natalie Smith was limited to four points on eight shot attempts.
