Thanks to our friends at Lewis Nissan and the New River Career and Technical College, the Player of the Week poll has found a new home!
Following up the success of our football Player of the Week polls, we’re launching one for basketball season as well!
Each week we’ll select one player from the area teams that wins a game. Coaches are welcome to nominate a player. Nominations must be in by 2 p.m. each Sunday.
The winner will be chosen by Play Sheet Sports and a guest picker. If the two don’t agree, the poll will be used as a tiebreaker. The winner each week will receive a trophy commemorating their victory.
The player with the most votes each week will advance to our Community Choice Poll. At the end of the year, all 11 Community Choice winners will be entered into a poll where the community can pick their Player of the Year from those 11 players. The winner will receive a trophy commemorating their success and the support their community gave them.
The poll will close Sunday, Jan. 18 at noon.
- Ava Workman, Greenbrier East – Workman scored 15 and grabbed 10 rebounds against Philip Barbour and scored 27 against Martinsburg.
- Jaelynn Boone, Summers County – Boone scored 19 in a win over Greenbrier West.
- Kenzie Chaffin, Midland Trail – Chaffin scored 14 and hauled in 19 rebounds in a win.
- Sarah Lilly, Westside – Lilly scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and registered nine steals against Scott.
- Lacey Goodson, Independence – Goodson scored 26 in a win over Greenbrier West.
- Lydia Dunlap, James Monroe – Dunlap rolled with 31 points in a win over Wyoming East.
- Gracie Rhodes – Rhodes netted 9 points in balanced win over Richwood.
- Addison McCabe, Princeton – McCabe scored 13 on 6 of 9 shooting in a win over Wyoming East.
- Donya Burton, Beckley – Burton scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over Wyoming East.
- Whitney Bibb, Greater Beckley – Bibb scored 14 points in a win over Heritage Christian and 25 in a win over Montcalm.
- Abby Greer, Summit Christian – Green scored 16 points in a win over Tazewell.
