Thanks to our friends at the New River Career and Technical College, the Player of the Week poll is back!
Each week we’ll select one player from the area teams that win a game. Coaches are welcome to nominate a player. Nominations must be in by 2 p.m. each Saturday.
The winner will be chosen by Play Sheet Sports and a guest picker. If the two don’t agree, the poll will be used as a tiebreaker.
The player with the most votes each week will advance to our Community Choice Poll. At the end of the year, all 11 Community Choice winners will be entered into a poll where the community can pick their Player of the Year from those 11 players. The winner will receive a trophy commemorating their success and the support their community gave them.
The poll will close Thursday at 3 p.m.
- RJ Coatney, Princeton – Coatney registered a pair of sacks and rushed for 64 yards in a 32-13 win over Beckley.
- Jaxson Workman, Liberty – Workman completed 5-of-10 passes for 150 yards and rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 13 seconds to play in a 36-30 win.
- Landon Keenan, Nicholas County – Kennan rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, adding an interception in a win over Greenbrier East.
- Evan Elswick, Westside – Elswick forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, picked two passes and returned one for a touchdown in a win over Tolsia.
- Jeremiah Jones, Bluefield – Jones rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns in a road win over Fairmont Senior.
- Bryce Gardinier, James Monore – Gardiner scored a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner on a 45-yard strike in the final minute of a win over Midland Trail.
- Bow Wykle, Meadow Bridge – Wykle rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats’ win over Richwood.
- Vinson Vaughan, Greenbrier West – Vaughan was in on nine tackles and registered a sack as West shutout Montcalm Friday night.
- Carson Treadway, Independence- Treadway rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown, caught eight passes for 137 yards, blocked a field goal and led the Patriots with 15 total tackles in a win at Linsly.
