The top-seeded Cardinals came away with a steal with five seconds to play, cementing a 41-38 win over George Washington in the Class AAAA state title game Saturday night at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The title is the first in program history for Spring Mills which finished with a 24-1 record on the year.
Caleb Thomas, who earned MVP honors, scored 15 points and had a par of key blocks in the final minute to keep GW off the board.
With 13 13 seconds left, GW had the ball with the chance to tie but a steal by Akwasi Opoku-Achampong with five seconds to go cemented the game for the Cardinals.
Noah Lewis, who fouled out with just over two minuets to play, led GW with 15 points in the loss.
