
Charleston – Leading by one point in the final 12 seconds, Fairmont Senior held Chapmanville scoreless, escaping the Class AAA quarterfinals with a 47-46 victory over the Tigers Tuesday morning in the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
No. 4 Senior advances to the Class AAA semis for the fourth straight year where it will face the winner of No. 1 Bridgeport-No. 8 Elkins on Friday at 1 p.m.
Chapmanville’s Joey Gollihue had a look at a corner 3 with five seconds to go but missed before the Polar Bears secured the rebound.
Fairmont Senior, which led most of the way, was led by a trio of veterans including Darrell Claybrook (15 points), Trea Cumberledge (15 points) and Julz Butler (13 points).
The Tigers, who were led by Terry Keaton’s 18 points, were undone by a poor shooting performance from beyond the arc (1-for-7).
