Charleston – Weston Smith mowed through Morgantown’s lineup Saturday, fanning 13 batters in a compete-game effort as Hurricane captured the inaugural Class AAAA state championship with a 6-1 victory over the Mohigans at GoMart Park in Charleston.
Tyler Baxter fueled most of the charge for the Redskins, hitting a three-run double in the fourth inning of a 2-1 game and later scoring on a wild pitch.
Aiden Ocheltree and Nick Fleece supplied two hits each in the victory as well.
Morgantown was led by Koa Silvers who had a hit and reached on a walk. Kai Henkins had the Mohigans lone RBI of the night.
