Charleston – The Greenbrier West shuttle hurdle team was aiming to demolish the school record
Instead the Cavaliers broke a state meet record.
The quadruplet of Isaac Agee, Randy Keener, Brandon Poticher and Colton Dunbar finished the Class A shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 58.43, demolishing the previous Class A state meet record of 59.01 set by Doddridge County in 2012 en route to the Class A title Friday at Laidley Field in Charleston.
The Cavaliers just missed the school record of 58.08, but will still have their names recorded for future Class A title contenders to aim for.
The victory served as a title defense for Dunbar, Keener and Agee who were a part of last year’s championship team and a first for Brandon Poticher who returned from an injury he suffered last season and supplanted Benjamin McDaniel this season.
“I’ve been ready to go,” Poticher said. “I wasn’t here last year so I had to make the most of it. I was ready.”
Poticher put the Cavaliers ahead on the first leg, passing off the Dunbar who put them ahead a whole hurdle. Keener took off from there, maintaining the lead before Agee at the anchor spot sealed the deal, overcoming a slight swipe of the hurdle.
“Last year at the state meet I think I nicked a couple too,” Agee said. “That different speed, it’s a different factor here and once I hit it, I was just like, ‘It’s nothing, you’ve got to keep running the race.'”
