Elkview – Independence’s return to the state tournament is on hold for another year.
Herbert Hoover took advantage of two free passes in the first inning, jumping out to a 3-1 lead an eventually a 7-1 win over the Patriots in game three of the Class AAA Region 3 championship series Thursday in Elkview.
The win sends the Huskies to the Class AAA state tournament where they’ll face the Region 4 winner on Friday in Little Creek Park in South Charleston.
Sadi Wehrle led the Huskies with a trio of hits and an RBI while Kaylyn Harper drove in a pair of runs.
Paytin Brehm and Emma Lilly had two hits each for Independence in the loss with Brehm driving in the lone run for the Patriots.
