Coal City – Degan Williams’ double in the bottom of the eighth inning delivered Independence a 5-4 win over PikeView in the Class AAA Region 3 tournament Thursday in Coal City.
The win sends the Patriots back to Greenbrier East where they’ll face the Spartans in an elimination game Friday in Fairlea while. The loss ends PikeView’s season.
Cole Cunningham led the charge at the plate for Indy going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and a home run.
Levi Barnett picked up the win on the bump, pitching 1.1 innings in relief.
Landon Bolen pitched six innings for PikeView, allowing just two earned runs.
Shady Spring 10, Princeton 9
Shady Spring – Shady Spring rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to topple Princeton 10-9 in the Class AAA Region 3 tournament Thursday in Shady Spring.
The Tigers will host Nicholas County on Friday in an elimination game.
Sam Barnett was the star of the night, doubling in the tying run and scoring the walk-off run on a passed ball. He finished 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI while Cutter Boggs and Brian Seabolt notched two hits each.
Landon Crane led Princeton with two hits and three RBI while Zack Jenkins picked up career hits No. 100 with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate.
James Monroe 14, Mingo Central 4
Lindside – James Monroe rolled Thursday, scoring in every inning of a 14-4 win over Mingo Central in the Class AA regional tournament.
The win sends the Mavericks to the title match of the bracket, needing just one win to advance to the regional championship series.
Peyton Gardinier led the charge with three hits and three RBI while Baylee Ridgeway drove in a trio of runs as well.
Kadyn Hines picked up the win, fanning 10 and allowing four earned runs.
Westside 11, Midland Trail 3
Clear Fork – Westside came out blazing, taking a 5-1 lead after an inning, eventually toppling Midland Trail 11-3 Thursday night in Clear Fork in an elimination game.
The loss ends Trail’s season while Westside will host Mingo Central on Friday in an elimination game for both squads.
Kadien Vance led the way with three hits and two RBI while Zach Short added a pair of hits and two RBI as well.
Charlie Hawks picked up the win, allowing just two earned runs over five innings pitched.
Summers County 3, Liberty 0
Hinton – Colten Jones was masterful Thursday, allowing just two hits as Summers County blanked Liberty 3-0 in its regional opener in Hinton.
The win sends Summers to the winners bracket where it will face Wyoming East on Friday at East while Liberty will host Bluefield in an elimination game.
Jones struck out 10 in his dominating effort, driving in a pair of runs at the plate while homering.
Ryan Oliveros added a pair of hits as well to ball the effort.
