
Summit Christian 66, Independence 56
Beckley – Summit Christian blistered the nets in the second half of Thursday’s matchup against Independence, toppling the Patriots 66-56 in the New River CTC Invitational at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
After hitting just 2 of 12 3-point attempts in the opening half, the Falcons turned it up a notch, nailing 6 of 7 3-pointer in the second half, part of an effort that saw them shoot 63 percent from the field (17-for-27) in the second half alone.
Independence, which trialed by just a point at the break, did well for itself offensively, nailing 15 of 29 shots in the second half but only one of those males was from beyond the arc, giving up ground to Summit.
Kyler Carpenter led Summit with 22 points while Dylan Jones scored 18. Eli Patton added 15 points and eight assists.
Brockj Green led Independence and all scorers with 24 points and nine rebounds and was flanked by Ashton Arthur who netted 16 points in the loss.
