Prep Basketball Roundup: Greenbrier East upends top-ranked Shady; Greenbrier West, Wyoming East, Beckley, Princeton and Summit earn wins

Huntington Expression Prep 77, Greater Beckley 68 (OT)

Beckley – Greater Beckley started fast, eventually falling 77-68 in overtime against Huntington Expression Prep Thursday at Greater Beckley.

The Crusaders led 20-7 after a quarter but were eventually outscored 14-5 in overtime.

Mitch Cox led Huntington with 22 points while Sheed Morrison netted 20.

Keegan Davidson led the Crusaders with 28 points in the loss.

New Richmond – Wyoming East built a cushion in the third quarter, outscoring Midland Trail 19-10 in the frame en route to a 67-48 win over the Patriots Thursday in New Richmond.

Konnor Fox and Broc Johnson led the Warriors with 16 points each while Braxton Morgan netted 11.

Payton Bailes led Trail with 23 points in the loss.

Beckley – Zyon Hawthorne and Jaylon Walton led the way Thursday as Beckley scored 90 points for the second time this week in a 92-58 win over Capital in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Hawthorne led the way with 26 points while Jaylon Walton netted 20. Preston Clary added 12.

Grant Barclay led Capital with 30 points in the loss.

Princeton – Princeton rebounded on senior night, securing an 82-69 win over Nicholas County in Princeton Thursday night.

Britt Beasley led the way with 27 points for the Tigers while Nick Bailey added 15. Jayce Gum (15), Zayden Neely (10) and Daniel Jennings (12) also scored in double figures.

Trey Stump led Nicholas with 28 points in the loss.

Fairlea – The second quarter proved to be Shady Spring’s undoing as Greenbrier East netted a 65-58 win over the Tigers Thursday in Fairlea.

East outscored Shady 20-11 in the decisive second quarter, taking a 14-point advantage into the final frame.

Nate Dixon led East with 21 points in the win which Reed McGraw adding 10.

Jalon Bailey led Shady with 21 points in the loss.

Beckley – Summit Christian took a double-digit lead after a quarter and rolled, securing an 88-37 win over Ballard Thursday in the WVCEA tournament at the Beckley-Raleigh County convention Center.

Summit will play Victory Baptist on Friday at 8 p.m.

Kyler Carpenter led Summit with 19 points while MJ Patton added 17.

Bo Wolfe led Ballard with 11 points in the loss.
