Beckley – James Monroe fell behind early and never recovered in a 10-0 loss to Wheeling Central in the Class AA/A state semifinals Wednesday evening.
The Mavericks found themselves down 3-0 in the first 10 minutes and were never able to right the ship against a barrage of Maroon Knights shots.
They ultimately trailed 8-0 at halftime before Wheeling Central enacted the mercy rule with its 10th and final goal.
Central advances to the title game where it will face No. 3 Sissonville.
