Coal City – Class AA No. 3 Independence survived a go-ahead two-point conversion attempt in the final three minutes Friday night to come away with a 28-27 win over Nicholas County on Senior Night in Coal City.
The night belonged to the underclassmen as freshman Pax Myers rushed for 202 yards on 26 carries while fellow freshman K.J. Viars hauled in eight passes for 136 yards and another touchdown.
Sophomore Brock Green rounded out the trio with 242 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Cole Laxton added a touchdown on 13 carries.
