Elkview – James Monroe’s gauntlet schedule took it to Herbert Hoover Thursday where it finished 1-2 on the night.
The Mavericks finished with a 2-1 win over South Charleston, beating the Black Eagles 25-14 and 15-8 before falling 2-1 to Hoover, the Class AAA state runners-up a year ago.
The Mavericks concluded their evening with a tough 2-0 loss to Williamstown by scores of 25-23 and 25-20.
The evening did yield another positive in that Skylar Clarkson notched her 1,000th career assist in the victory over South Charleston.
The gauntly continues Tuesday when the Mavericks play state tournament teams Shady Spring and Wyoming East in a tri-match.
