The Cavalier defense struggled Saturday evening, yielding eight offensive touchdowns in a 67-16 loss to the Class AA runner-up Roane County Raiders in Spencer.
Colton Dunbar led the Cavaliers with 82 yards on 10 carries while Ben Butler picked up 43 yards and a score on two carries. Elijah McDaniel added West’s second touchdown on an 86-yard kickoff return with five minutes to go in the game.
Roane County, relying almost exclusively on its rushing attack, compiled 344 yards on 25 rushes.
West (0-1) will look to rebound Friday when it travels to Summers County.
