Clear Fork –
Team: Westside
2024 Recap
In their third year under head coach Justin Cogar, the Westside Renegades finished with a 7-3 record, earning a playoff spot. The Renegades fell in the first round to eventual state champion Frankfort.
Following the season Cogar resigned and the team graduated all-staters Kadien Vance, Kyler Kenneda and receiver Coltin Lester.
2025 Outlook
Will Daniels takes over for Cogar, hoping to rebuild instead of reload.
To do so he’ll need to find a way to replace Vance who threw for over 2,000 yards and led the team in rushing with 747.
The ground attack in particular is a point of emphasis for Daniels as no player aside from Vance rushed for more than 300 yards last year, forcing the Renegades to be overly reliant on the pass.
“We’re going to be a little more of a dual-threat offense this year,” Daniels said. “We’re definitely looking to pound the ball with our running game a lot more than we have in years past. We’re excited with our running backs. We feel like we’ve probably got some of the more true running back type players that can fill that hole. Last year teams knew we were probably going to go out and primarily pass on them and use Kadien in the run game. This year we’ve got two or three options along with some talented receivers. Honestly the strongest point of the team is probably the line. We’ve got three seniors on the line.”
Kameron York is one of the top returning Renegades, starting at center and linebacker where he led the team in sacks with 10 a year ago. He’ll snap the ball to sophomore quarterback Bradyn Waldron and block for Devin Sanders, a transfer running back from Man who Daniels has high hopes for.
“Bradyn will have Logan McNeely blocking for him too and Jace Repass who’s a great athlete,” Daniels said. “His wide receiver core will have Ethan Walls and his brother Braxton who was having a good season for us last year before he broke his collarbone.
“Bradyn’s played the position for the last 10 years and been on some really great teams. He is a sophomore but he’s been in that role all his life. It’s nothing really new to him, he’s just getting more adapted to the speed and athleticism of the high school game. He was basically the sixth man for the basketball team last year and had some clutch performances in Charleston so I don’t really worry about him under pressure. He’s replacing Kadien but he’s going to be great. He’s a dual threat guy with great speed and has a good arm. Devin was Man’s starting quarterback the last few years but he’s going to be our starting running back.”
The first seven games of Westside’s schedule will remain the same but the final three weeks will look different with James Monroe and Logan taking the place of Tug Valley and Mount View.
The Renegades will kickoff their season on Aug. 29 when they head to Wyoming East.
